This is the beginning of a new series of posts where we take 2 Craigslist ads for different project vehicles and see which one we like more. Rules are simple, vote for one, maybe add a comment on why you choose the way you did, and as for cost and budget, you will have the cost of the vehicle plus $5,000 to get it road worthy. READY, SET, & CHOOSE!

I’d go with the Fiat since the work it needs done I know I can do. Body work isn’t my bag.

I don’t see a survey, but I’m picking the Corvette.

After restoring a boat no fiberglass work for me

Going with the vette because it’s black and sexy. It says so on the license plate.

That plate is cringe worthy.

OMG THE FIAT. guys guys GUYS! The 1968-69 models are called AS models and they are so very extremely rare in North America. 1970 and onwards models are called BS Spiders (I know) and are much more common. The AS spiders have different lights, corner lights shared with the Miura, a torque tube instead of a driveshaft, and a 1458cc engine that revs higher than the 1600cc unit. I have been looking for one of these for so long.
And of course, it’s 2,500 miles away from me on the wrong coast. My heart weeps. I really want one. I’ve been looking off and on for three years and this will be the 3rd I’ve ever found.

Wow, I didn’t know that. This one has been calling my name ever since I saw it. As much as I like the Vette, I think I’d rather have the Fiat... Maybe I can get it after I sell the 928....

I’m partial to the Fiat off the bat because a coworker has one that is just gorgeous. As others have said, bodywork is more expensive and tougher to do on your own. So even though the Fiat is not running, I’ll take it.

More revs are better than more displacement. My brother’s sitting on an ‘80 (?) Spider with disassembled engine. The OG internal components are so incredibly heavy. The only other engines I’ve had apart are 4AGEs and each piston in the Fiat probably weighs twice as much as a cylinder and rod combined from a 4A. I have no idea how they made these things rev. He has lighter internal bits now, but it all still needs to be put together.

I’m legit about to find a set for the alfa.

I’d go with the Fiat and swap some kind of modern engine into it. I’d also have to figure out a way to get disc brakes on it. It looks like a reasonably clean/interesting starting point for a project. Infinitely more interesting than any C3 Corvette (plus that price is ludicrous for the condition).

But the 1.4 would be lovely.

Not even a choice for me; 124 all day. It needs interior cleanup, exterior aesthetic work, and probably a new roof, but the C3 is objectively the worst Corvette (
come at me bros!
) and the $3,500 you save would go nicely towards fixing it.

I am kind of thinking the same thing. I really like the 124 and it is a bit more strange and a bit more interesting. Especially being an early model. I really really want to buy it. Plus you don’t need a roof here in SoCal (most of the time). And duct tape is cheap.
I understand that. I mean the later ones have no chrome and too much smog equipment. I think they stop being good after the ‘73 MY because I like the look of the plastic front, but still having a chrome rear. After that they look like crap. But I like the C3, it is a good looking car with fun features.
Also, rules would mean you wouldn’t have and extra $3,500. You only have an extra $5k on top of vehicle asking price to fix the car.
